This series is the result of a collaboration between Ted Wallace and his close friend Gerald Panio. Gerald has a strong interest in Tarot and has spent significant time studying, reading, and writing about his experience with Tarot.
Ted’s statement on this series:
I work in my studio most days. The core of my work is inner vision; looking inside through meditation, reflection and life processes. I take the visions, dreams, realizations and questions in to my studio where I sketch, write and paint. I try to listen deeply and to see what thoughts and ideas come with energy. It is like putting up the sail and seeing which wind will come and move me along. Through this process I became more and more aware of Carl Jung and his ideas of the collective subconscious. By working with various practices more and more ideas that felt like they bubbled up from the subconscious. These ideas seem to come through me from somewhere else and I work to accept and manifest them.
When Gerald asked me a year or so ago to do a Tarot deck I said yes. He supplied me with a few concise pages for each card; full of the traditions, the meanings and his incredible insights into the human journey reflected in the cards. My sail was up, the energy was there, each card allowed me to listen and see what would come from the depths; depths that have been accessed and created by a rich history of studying Tarot.
We decided that painting the Major Arcana was possible. It took me more than a year, hundreds of hours in my studio to paint the 22 card images. I have received my gift in the process of creating these images and I am happy to share them with whoever might find them interesting or thought provoking.
